The challenge
How might we unify our organisation's visual identity whilst respecting our ties to government and our Indigenous culture?
Indigenous Australian art and symbolism.
It was evident from the outset that this project, like all projects, was not about us, our creativity or our ability to reinterpret. This was about centring Indigenous Australian art, symbolism and pattern-making into the core of an organisatonal identity that represented Indigenous corporations.
A respectful, culturally-relevant and meaningful visual language that tells a story.
Our collaboration with Indigenous Australian Designer and Artist, Wongi man Kevin Wilson, ensured the respectful focus on storytelling and culturally significant artwork formed the core of the visual identity and its expression.
A design system, and visual language with endless possibilities.
We ensured the longevity of the visual identity system by developing ideas that weren't reliant on strict conformity, but rather, the reinvention and reimagination of the original artworks.
The Story
The Office of The Registrar of Indigenous (ORIC) Corporations supports and regulates corporations for Indigenous people throughout Australia.
Our team lead a multi-year transformation program with ORIC that saw us collaborate with Indigenous designers to create culturally-sensitive and relevant art that could be use across the organisation's identity system.
Auditing, synthesising and evolving corporate communications collateral allowed us to form an efficient pathway for the evolution of the organisation's identity.
A considered approach to stakeholder engagment, research, and content strategy informed the evolution of the ORIC website, as well as the approach to communications design.

We are based in Melbourne, Australia, and our work is conducted across our nation and in various cities around the world. We acknowledge and pay respect to the past, present and future Traditional Custodians and Elders of the nation we live and work in and the continuation of cultural, spiritual and educational practices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
