An Australian disability services provider, which has grown significantly in recent years, engaged Tank to assess and evaluate its Marketing, Communications, Fundraising, and Philanthropy functions.
The purpose of this evaluation was to explore innovation opportunities and inform a future-state operatioinal model, ensuring that these functions were well-positioned to support the organisation’s future strategy and objectives.
This project came at a time when the organisation was undergoing significant transformation, aiming to modernise its operations, achieve financial sustainability, and adapt to sector-wide reforms.
We were tasked with conducting a comprehensive capability assessment of the Marketing, Communications, Fundraising, and Philanthropy functions. The organisation had been through a period of rapid growth and was undergoing a transformation to unify its operations and streamline efficiencies. The primary objective was to identify improvement and innovation opportunities within these functions to ensure they were aligned with the organisation’s future strategy and positioned to support its goals.
The project involved extensive engagement with a broad range of stakeholders across the organisation, including leadership, staff, and key external parties. Through stakeholder interviews, surveys, and a literature review, we gathered insights on the current and desired future state of these functions. Board reports were presented throughout the engagement, keeping leadership informed of progress and key findings.
Key lines of inquiry included governance frameworks, processes and methodologies, team capacity and capability, and evidence-based decision-making. The evaluation aimed to identify gaps between the current and future state, offering recommendations to bridge these gaps and unlock opportunities for innovation and efficiency.
We delivered a detailed maturity assessment, identifying key areas for innovation across the function's governance, capacity, and processes. The findings were used to present actionable recommendations to the organisation’s board, ensuring that leadership was fully equipped to guide the next steps.
The organisation benefited from the development of a clear, forward-looking roadmap that outlined how its Marketing, Communications, Fundraising, and Philanthropy functions could act as key enablers of future growth.
The project ensured that these functions were aligned with the latest sector reforms and the involvement of stakeholders at multiple levels fostered a sense of shared responsibility, ensuring that the insights gained were practical and informed by those directly engaged in the organisation’s mission.
