Leadership Victoria

How might we bring coherence to our identity while honouring a long legacy of leadership?

Leadership Victoria is a not-for-profit organisation with a long-standing reputation for developing leaders committed to positive community impact across the state of Victoria.

While its flagship Williamson Community Leadership Program (WCLP) carried deep credibility and alumni loyalty, LV faced a familiar challenge: in a crowded leadership marketplace, its broader organisational identity had become diffuse, with limited clarity about what LV uniquely stood for beyond its programs.

LV engaged Tank to support the development of a clear, cohesive organisational identity strategy, one that honoured its legacy, centred community leadership, and created a strong foundation for future strategy, storytelling and growth.

The challenge

In its early conversations with our team, Leadership Victoria was at an important moment of reflection. With a strong legacy and a portfolio of well-regarded programs, there was an opportunity to bring greater coherence to how the organisation articulated who it is and the role it plays in Victoria’s leadership landscape.

Like many organisations working in a crowded environment, LV was navigating a sector where leadership language had become familiar and, at times, indistinct. At the same time, much of the organisation’s strength-particularly the depth of experience, influence and contribution of its alumni community-was not yet fully visible or consistently told as part of a shared organisational story.

There was also a growing recognition that the impact created by Leadership Victoria extends well beyond individual programs, unfolding over time through the work of alumni embedded in communities across the state. Capturing and articulating this impact in a clear and consistent way represented both a challenge and a significant opportunity.

The task, then, was not to change Leadership Victoria, but to listen closely, honour what already existed, and bring clarity, coherence and voice to an identity grounded in community leadership and lived impact.

Our work

Tank partnered with Leadership Victoria to listen to stakeholder perceptions, gather insights and develop a comprehensive organisational identity playbook. One that brought together purpose, positioning and voice into a clear and cohesive whole.

At the heart of the work was a renewed articulation of Leadership Victoria’s purpose, vision and values, grounded in equity, inclusion and community impact. This was supported by a clear positioning framework that reflected LV’s role as the home of leadership in Victoria, a lifelong community for alumni, an organisation committed to accountability for impact, and a steward of community leadership for the long term.

Alongside this, Tank worked with LV to shape a brand narrative and tone of voice that felt human, credible and grounded—one that could speak with confidence without losing warmth or humility. Strategic guidance focused on elevating alumni voices as a central expression of LV’s identity, aligning programs to a shared and clearly defined understanding of community leadership, and building practical foundations for measuring and communicating impact over time.

Together, this work gave Leadership Victoria a shared language—internally and externally—to articulate who they are, why they exist, and the kind of leadership they seek to foster in the world.

Impact

This engagement laid the groundwork for stronger coherence across Leadership Victoria’s programs, communications and organisational culture. It supported the organisation to build long-term brand equity around community leadership, while more clearly recognising alumni as active partners in impact, rather than simply participants in programs.

Most importantly, it has supported Leadership Victoria to stand confidently in its role: not as another leadership provider in a crowded field, but as a steward of leadership grounded in community, contribution and collective good.

Throughout the engagement, Tank acted as a strategic partner, listener and synthesiser; working alongside the board, staff and key stakeholders, to surface existing strengths, clarify its unique contribution, and shape an organisational identity that honours both its legacy and its future direction.
